Cotton WAX shirt, M-size, SANTASU Collection, Mixed, press closure.
The story is long but it is important to us to tell you a little more about the Iroko Factory project.
This collection of garments made from wax and cotton poplin, is called "Santasu" (high city in karone language)
It was made for IROKO Factory by Moussa Diarra and Aurelie Deloche, in Kafountine in Casamance from February to June 2020, it was originally a small collection of ten shirts in Wax, but the containment has expanded the time of creation and horizons, you will find here a large collection!

Aurélie is a multidisciplinary artist. In addition to her collaborations in Belgium in the performing arts, she had the chance to discover West Africa through precious human and artistic adventures. She is the creator of the IROKO association, which carries out the IROKO Factory project focused on handcrafted creation and the exchange of know-how.
Moussa, a Senegalese tailor, grew up between The Gambia and Casamance. He's been cutting and sewing for over 20 years. In Gambia, as a young teenager, after school he went to observe the local tailor in his workshop. At the age of 14, he decided to quit school and devote himself to learning the trade. A few years ago, Moussa set up his own workshop in Kafountine, his mother's village, in the family district of Santasu.
Kafountine is a fishing village in Senegal located in the lower casamance.

The "Santasu" collection is mainly made from Wax 100% cotton.
The wax born of the Indonesian Batik, borrows its first motifs. But wax has been enriched with motifs specific to the culture of the peoples of Africa over the decades, although some of the geometric patterns recall Javanese motifs.
The main player in wax is obviously the tailor. In Africa, tailor-made clothing is a common practice. Everyone knows the tailor to wear depending on the type of clothing they want. The great talent of the tailor is the cut that is made by freehand without a pattern, but also in the enhancement of the motifs.
To be a tailor in West Africa is to be part of this large community of craftsmen that is called upon on a daily basis in many sub-Saharan African countries, "tailoring" is a profession that has great social resonance.
